No Identity. No Protection.
No Identity. No protection.
A collaboration between the United Nations, The Freedom Fund and Positive Negatives.
I was invited to collaborate with Positive Negatives on a series of comics and animations to communicate issues around modern slavery, responding to research in Nepal, Brazil and Kenya.
There is growing recognition that people who lack official documentation are often unable to access their basic rights and entitlements, contributing to a myriad of complex challenges including social stigma, economic marginalisation and lack of political representation and legal protection.
The findings from this study aim to deepen understanding of how people lacking documentation are disproportionately at risk of falling into exploitation and face greater barriers in escaping it. The report also identifies practical solutions for policymakers, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and donors in the focus countries and globally – that are informed by the lived experiences of survivors of modern slavery.
Above are some example pages from the three comics:
Modern Slavery - Brazil - No Identity. No Protection: I work like a slave.
Modern Slavery - Kenya - No Identity. No Protection: No one knows I am here.
Modern Slavery - Nepal - No Identity. No Protection: We have no choice.
